History
The return of the classics! They recorded 3 albums in a mere 12 months! Most of
their equipment was stolen in Italy in December 75.
Hugh Banton:
In between VdGG VIa and b he joined Seventh Wave for gigs and the album Psi-Fi (Gull
1975). After leaving VdGG he started designing organs for a company in Oldham until he
went solo in 1991 (further info at the Banton page).
He may have played in local pub bands during the 80s, and certainly joined Judge
and Gold Frankincense & Disk Drive on stage at the VdGG-convention on 3rd of
May 1992.
Reunion time:
There were at least three VdGG live reunions between December 1976 and
May 2005: Autumn 1991 they
allegedly performed House With No Door, Sleepwalkers, Still Life,
Refugees and Arrow in a marquee (!) at Sue Jackson's fortieth birthday
party. "Very bizarre. There's NO bootleg!" PH said afterwards.
There might have been other odd performances at closed
parties, too.
At Guy's and PH's very special gig
with friends at the Union Chapel in
Highbury Islington, London on Nov. 3rd 1996 the four of them performed
Lemmings unannounced in front of a stunned audience. The last one was also
unannounced; performing Still Life as the encore of Peter Hammill's
gig at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on February 20th 2003.
Which triggered the real reunion.
