History
More classics, starting with Fool's Mate which includes songs from pre- and early
VdGG days not suited for the band any more by 71. After the VdGG-era followed four
albums in less than two years. Pretty impressive by any standards (and the tempo
and quality of the recorded output continued after the reformation)! Some or all the
VdGG-boys are guesting on each album. Nadir's Big Chance was a contractual
obligation recorded by the band after the reunion had been settled. It introduced
Peter Hammill's alter ego Rikki Nadir, a loud aggressive 16 year old punk, and it
pre-dated the punk movement by a couple of years and at least inspired Johnny
Rotten. Peter Hammill performed solo, duo, trio, and also quatro for three gigs in
Italy. In Bologna on 28. May 1973 the four of them were billed as VdGG (much to
PH's despair, I guess!).
